End All Be All

I love you as I love no other. All that I am I share with you. For better for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do us part. On this day 3 years ago Walter and I pledged our love and faith to each other in front of friends and family, sealing our vows with the exchange of rings. We became one. Pronounced husband and wife. Those that God has joined together, let no man put assunder. This year we had a small bump in the road that has drawn us closer to one another and our faith. Our love is amazing. We are in this race we call life together. The title of this post comes from what is engraved in our wedding rings. We love and appreciate all of those who have been here for the both us and support us. We have been truly blessed.

Song of Solomon 8:6-7
"Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away. "

Only the love of a mother and a father

This entry is dedicated entirely to Brenda & Bobby (Walters in laws). Brenda moved in with us on June 20th and deserves much praise for giving up her life to see us through each and every day of this difficult journey, our commitment to each other and our well being. She sees Bobby every other week (sometimes a couple weeks go by) which has been very difficult for the both of them. They love both of us so much that they have sacrificed their time and lives to see us through this even if it means they have to be apart for a little while. Their hard work, dedication and love is incredible and commendable. They are strong and beautiful people both inside and out. Walter adores Brenda and shares a rare bond with her that is amazing. He calls her his Lulu (her caregiver nickname). He refuses to have anyone else care for him (of course, besides Jessica). Their unfailing love for Jesus Christ and their desire to serve Him is unwavering. They will have many crowns of jewels awaiting for them one day. We feel so blessed and are thankful to have such a wonderful mother/father/mother in law/father in law. There are not enough words Walter and I can express to say how much we love and appreciate them!

What looks like a detour may be a new road to a blessing - Phil 1:12

Week of 9/27
Monday - Walter returns home from Quitman! Mom and I are excited. Mom has a delicious dinner ready for all of us, stir fry. Jillian, Kevin and Vicki stop by to see their buddy that was so missed. Tuesday - Walter has therapy 2-4:30pm. The next couple of days we work on getting back into our routine at home.
Wednesday - Walter has therapy 2-4:30pm. Dana Sepela from Valdosta passes through Atlanta and stops to visit with us for a couple hours. She bakes Walter lots of brownies and he loves it. His grin is as wide as the grand canyon tonight. They are all for him except for 2 corners that seemed to disappear mysteriously (mom ;) )
Thursday - Therapy again 2-4:30pm. The therapists tell us that Walter is reaching a plateau (which is very common) and they will be cutting his therapy sessions back to 1-2 times a week. On his days off at home mom and I will still continue to do all his therapies (speech, physical & occupational) with him. We are all a little nervous about it but have to keep in mind that the therapists are the experts. So we are going to make the best of it and beleive this new schedule may have something in store for us later.
Friday - After Jessica got off from work we (Bobby,Brenda & Walter) head to Greenville, SC for the weekend. Bobby was able to come up the night before. We are thrilled to spend a fun weekend with a lot of Walter's college friends. Traffic was not th greatest of course getting out of Atlanta. We eat M&M's to stay content (one of Walter's favorite traveling snacks, the other is funyuns). We will be visiting with Dan and Keli Jo (Walter went to Carson Newman with them). It is Keli Jo's surprise birthday party. We arrive around 7pm. Dan never told KJ we were coming. She had no idea what the surprise was and probably never would have guessed it. The last time we saw them was in February for Walter's birthday. We all went to the cabin in Blue Ridge. Eric and Daniel are excited to see us. My dad had a blast with their boys, they played lots of ping pong. We all hang out tonight and eat pizza.
Saturday - We have a bbq picnic at Furman University (this was their homecoming weekend). We walk around the lake and take a couple pictures. Below is one of Walter and I near the big clock on the peninsula. All the guys head home to prepare dinner for the surprise party that Keli Jo has no clue about as well. I take her shopping and try to keep her away as long as possible....there are only so many stores one can go to when you have seen it all. There was a couple cloase calls where we almost came back. Dan you did a grea job!

If you know Walter very well you know he does not like photos. So it's a big deal for him to tell me it is ok to post this picture. He still has those gorgeous teeth and sexy legs! (he didn't say I could say that...shhhh!)

Home is where the heart is

We finally go to the dr as Walter cannot shake this cold....we hope to be up and running like new in no time.

Week of 9/20
Monday - Walters hair stylist has been so kind to drive to our home to give Walter a haircut (his hair grows so fast that he needs it done every 4-6 weeks). I like it a little shorter than Walter does so we settle in the middle.
Tuesday - Nurse Angela comes to our home to give Walter pulmonary hygeine. This will help break up the mucous in his lungs. She adores him and says he is her favorite patient. Therapy today 2-4:30pm. Kevin cooks us a wonderful dinner of fried pork chops.
Wednesday - Nurse Angela comes in the morning with lots of cheer for her fave. Therapy today 2-4:30pm. Walter is so tired he won't speak, he will only nod his head yes or no. And of course eat dinner. We grill hamburgers with Mom, Jillian and Kevin.
Thursday - Nurse Angela raves on how well Walter is doing. She has only know him a couple days and sees his work ethic and how he wants to get better. She has been a great encourager to Walter. He hears it from his therapists, me and my mom every day but to hear it from a stranger is uplifting. Walter's family attends a training session at Pathways. Walter goes to Quitman with them for a few days to visit. He says he was extremely lazy, watched lots of football and saw friends like Ada Dodd, Spence Romine, Rich Lamon, Francis Williams, Dick Mitchell, Nancy and John Romine. When he returned home to Atlanta on Monday he said "I had a good time but it feels good to be home. There's no place like home."

Fall is coming and so is flu season......

Week of 9/13
This week we all are starting to come down with something. It's not good. It started with a sore throat then you get a runny nose and then it tries to settle in your chest. We have no planned guests this week so the agenda is to get lots of rest. Walter is fitted for his dynasplint (left arm brace) that will help keep it stretched. The therapists want him to wear it all night and then try to wear it several hours a day until he can wear it all the time. He's so excited (I'm joking). At night we can hear the velcro sound. By morning the dynasplint is usually half way off. Walter told his therapist Caitlyn that squirrels like to come and take it off at night. It's easier to say it was a squirrel rather than admitting you did it and getting in trouble...
Sunday - Today we relax with family. We also have an announcement. Jillian (Jessica's sister) is expecting her first baby at the end of November. It is a girl and the entire family is thrilled! If anyone knows about girls, it is the King family.
Monday - Walter has a sleepy day. Jessica's parents go to Augusta, GA to see James (Jessica's brother). He is leaving for a 8-9 month tour with the military. We pray that God will keep him safe.Walter and I are very proud of him. We love you James!
Tuesday - Walter is feeling a little under the weather still so he will not be going to therapy today. Bernice (part time caretaker) stays with Walter so Jessica can go to work. Walter calls Jessica several times to ask when she is coming home from work. It is never soon enough ;)
Wednesday - Walter has come down with a nasty cough. He again does not go to therapy. He hates missing therapy so we have to encourage him that he needs to get over his cough first and then he can return and work hard at getting better.
Thursday & Friday - Lots of rest for everyone. We are still trying to shake the cold. Our neighbors Kevin and Vicki check on us often. They bring cough drops, tissues and Emergen-C. We have such great friends that look out for us!
Saturday - Today is guys day. Pizza & football ALL DAY. I try to catch up on paperwork at the house and dinner with a couple girlfriends (the first time since Walter came home from the hospital in June). It was a strange feeling. I could not relax and tried really hard to. I also felt extremely guilty that I was able to go out, walk and talk with our friends. But my mind kept replaying what Walter said to me before he kissed me and I walked out the door "I love you and I want you to have a good time." So many emotions go through you when you haven't been away from your loved one. Questions constantly ran through my mind: Did he get his medicine's on time, does he have to go to the bathroom, is he hungry, is his left leg propped up, is he hugging the pillow to keep his arm extended......I finally feel comfort half way through the dinner. Our lives are not in our hands but in Gods. When He permits trials He also provides comfort. I then relax and know Walter will be fine and it is ok to enjoy a couple hours away. I arrive home and he is having a wonderful time with the guys. He wants to make it a tradition now atleast one night a week ;) I think I could could get use to his idea....

Fun in the Sun!

Title: Fun in the Sun
In case you didn't know, Walter loves hot weather! The hotter it is the better. 80/90 degrees he'll take it everyday if he could. I took a few days off of work (along with the holiday weekend) so we can enjoy quality time with each other in Destin, FL. We had a fun time with wonderful friends and family and of course great food!

Week of 9/6
Sunday - While everyone heads to the beach I owe Walter a day for just him and guess what he wants to do....chillax on the couch and watch football with junk food. And that is exactly what we did. I can't even remember what games were on...there were so many! One after another and another. Tijuana flats for dinner another one of our favorite restaurants down here.
Monday - Labor Day marks the end of summer and the beginning of fall. Another relaxing day and lunch at High Tide. They have great blackened mahi and french fries.
Tuesday - We are sad to leave this beautiful place and look forward to visiting it again soon. The drive back to Atlanta is long. We break it up with bathroom and food stops. Oh and a creepy antique store. All I can say is Deliverance. We made it fun....Mom and Walter had their fair share of chocolate the entire ride home. I had my fun jumping out from behind the car into the window to scare mom and Walter. It was quite funny and still is.
Wednesday - Back to work for the both of us. Walter has therapy. They really pushed him hard today as he had so many days off. He is exhausted by the time he gets home. He won't speak but just nod his head yes or no. He is so funny.
Thursday - Peggy & Walt Sr. stop in for a surprise visit before Walter goes to therapy. Today Jessica and Walter will begin to remap their journey together. Jessica will no longer be with DirecPath effective October 30th. Please pray as God guides us in to the next chapter of our lives. We are anxious to see what He has in store.
Friday - Walter has therapy today because he didn't have it earlier in the week. They do not go easy on him. He has come so far! We are humbled that our Heavenly Father has brought us to this point of the recovery.
Saturday - We settle in for a calm weekend. No plans....
